Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous experience to go horseback riding?

No experience is required. Our wranglers will match you with a gentle, well-trained horse and give you a safety orientation and basic riding instruction before you head out.

What is the weight limit for horseback riding?

There is no specific weight limit for our rides. However, for safety and insurance purposes, every guest must be physically capable of riding their own horse independently and must be able to reach the stirrups.

What should I wear for the ride?

You must wear long pants to prevent chafing from the saddle and closed-toe shoes (boots or sturdy sneakers) for safety in the stirrups. We also recommend bringing a light jacket or long-sleeved shirt, as mountain temperatures can change quickly, even in the summer.

Can children ride on the same horse as an adult?

No, children may not ride double with an adult. Every guest, including children, must be at least 7 years old and ride their own horse.

What happens if it rains?

Rides typically proceed in the rain, and we recommend bringing a rain jacket or rain suit (ponchos are discouraged as they can flap and startle horses). If conditions become dangerous, such as during a lightning storm, we will pause or reschedule the ride.

What is served at the Cowboy Cookout?

Dinner includes grilled Montana steaks and pork chops (chicken available on request), baked potatoes, coleslaw, salad or corn-on-the-cob, and cornbread. You’re welcome to bring your own beer or wine.

Kids under 6 can’t ride but are welcome to join the cookout and eat for free. Let us know about any dietary needs when you book.

Can I bring a camera or phone on the horse?

You can bring a camera or phone as long as it’s secured with a neck strap or in a zippered pocket. You’ll need both hands free for the reins while riding.

Where do we meet for the ride?

All guests must check in at our office in Gardiner (129 US Hwy 89 S) one hour before the start time. From there, you will drive your own vehicle a few minutes to the ranch. We will provide detailed directions at check-in.
