Saddle up for a classic Montana experience just minutes from Yellowstone National Park. Our guided horseback rides near Gardiner, MT, take you into the scenic Absaroka Mountains of the Custer-Gallatin National Forest. All skill levels and children 7 and up are welcome to ride.

Our experienced wranglers will match you with a gentle, well-trained horse and guide you through safe, family-friendly trails. You’ll learn basic riding techniques and spend your time surrounded by the kind of views Montana is known for.

All rides begin just outside Gardiner, Montana, the gateway to Yellowstone’s North Entrance. It’s the perfect way to slow down, breathe the mountain air, and experience the wild beauty of Yellowstone Country.

1-HOUR YELLOWSTONE HORSEBACK RIDE

Ride through scenic mountain terrain alongside experienced wranglers who share stories about the land, wildlife, and history of this region. This short ride is great for families, beginners, and anyone short on time who still wants an authentic horseback experience.

Pricing: $150 per Adult | $150 per Child (Ages 7–12)

Trip Length: 1 Hour

Start Times: 9:00 AM or 11:00 AM

Check In: One hour before start time at our office – 129 US Hwy 89 S, Gardiner, MT

Note: You will need to provide your own transportation to the ranch, a few minutes from or office in Gardiner. We’ll send directions upon booking.

Trip Details

We suggest wearing long pants and shoes that cover your toes, plus a hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, long-sleeved shirt, and a warm jacket in cooler temperatures.

  • We welcome riders ages 7 and up
  • No riding experience is required; wranglers give a brief orientation before you ride
  • Non-riders can walk scenic ranch trails and enjoy the views while their group rides
  • You may bring a camera that fastens securely around your neck

EVENING HORSEBACK RIDE & COWBOY COOKOUT

End your day with a one-hour evening ride through the Custer-Gallatin National Forest with mountain views around Yellowstone, then enjoy a hearty cowboy cookout as the sun sets. Relax around the campfire, roast marshmallows, and enjoy Montana’s Big Sky country.

Pricing: $250 per Adult | $225 per Child (Ages 7–12)

Cowboy Cookout Only (No Ride): $130 per Adult | $105 per Child

Don’t want to ride? Come along to enjoy the ranch, walk the trails, and join your group for dinner. Kids under 6 are welcome to join the cookout and eat for free.

Trip Details

This Saddle and Paddle adventure is designed for guests ages 7 and up. You’ll ride with experienced wranglers on scenic ranch trails, then head to the river for an expertly guided rafting trip.

Even if someone in your group chooses not to ride, they’re welcome to enjoy the beauty of this classic Montana ranch on foot.

Note: You’ll drive yourself from our office to the horseback riding ranch just outside of town.

What to Bring

  • For horseback riding: Long pants and close-toed shoes.
  • For rafting: Swimsuit or quick-dry clothes. Be ready to get wet!
  • We provide all rafting gear, including life jackets, footwear, and wetsuits or splash jackets if needed.

Add a Picnic Lunch ($15)

Add a picnic lunch at checkout and we’ll have it ready at check-in. After your ride, enjoy lunch under a shaded canopy at the ranch.

Lunch includes: turkey and cheese sandwich on a hearty roll, watermelon, potato chips, cookies, plus ice-cold water and lemonade.

Do I need experience to ride?

Our Yellowstone horseback riding is suitable for beginners. Regardless of skill level, our expert wranglers will guide you from start to finish and keep you safe on your journey.

What should I wear?

For the best experience, we recommend dressing in a long pants, sturdy shoes that cover your toes, and your top should be weather dependent.. If you are booking a ride in May, early June, and September, wear extra layers of clothing, thermal underwear, a heavy jacket, and warm gloves.

What should I bring with me for the ride?

Bring a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle, and a raincoat. Chances are the sun will shine, but it’s better to be prepared in the mountains. Cameras, binoculars, snacks, and gloves are all optional. Don’t bring firearms, backpacks, bear sprays, or fanny packs.

Can children join the rides?

Children must be 7 years and older.

Where do the rides take place?

Our horseback rides take place in the Absaroka Mountains in the Gallatin National Forest. You’ll need to provide your own transportation to the ranch. Please check in at our office at 129 US Hwy 89 S, Gardiner, MT 59030, one hour before your scheduled time.
