Wildlife Watching in Yellowstone National Park-Morning Tours
We will meet you either at your accommodation in Gardiner, near the northwest entrance to Yellowstone, or at a central location within the park (depending on where you are staying). Our guide will ride along* with you in your vehicle, sharing information about the park, answering your questions, and adapting our itinerary to changing conditions and opportunities. You are ensured to have a marvelous day. We provide breakfast and late morning snacks, cold water and drinks, a high quality Swarovski spotting scope (or two for groups larger than 4,) two pairs of binoculars, and a few field identification guides.
We will typically start our day in the Northern Range of Yellowstone visiting areas of known wolf activity first thing in the morning, searching the landscape for sign or distant movement. We may check several areas or stay in one place to watch and wait. Our guide will scan each location to look for other species, such as bears, coyotes, foxes, eagles and osprey. We will take a break to dine on a hearty, delicious breakfast with hot coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the beautiful outdoors. Afterward, we will take you to a few of our favorite spots to see other wildlife of interest. If time allows, we can go for a short walk to stretch our legs and see what animals we can see from the trail before we head back to our rendezvous location.
- Bring layers! It can be freezing in the morning and quite hot by midday. It is not uncommon to have 60 degree (F) temp changes.
- Also bring your water bottle and remember to drink plenty of water. Yellowstone has a dry, high elevation climate.
- We will bring a water cooler with extra water for refills.

We'll meet you at your accommodation in Gardiner, near the northwest entrance to Yellowstone, or at a central location within the park (depending on where you are staying). Our guide will ride along* with you in your vehicle sharing information about the park, answering your questions, and adapting our evening's itinerary to changing conditions and opportunities.
We will typically remain in the Northern Range of Yellowstone visiting areas of known wolf activity. Based on the day's sightings, we may determine if it is best to stage ourselves in one spot to watch and area of known activity or we may check several areas. We will scan each location to look for other species, such as bears, coyotes, foxes, eagles and osprey. We will be using a high quality Swarovski spotting scope (or two for groups larger than 4) and binoculars to aid us in our search. You will enjoy an evening picnic in the beautiful outdoors. As the sun lowers, we will make our way back to our rendezvous location, stopping off to admire a few views if time permits. We will return to our meeting location by dusk, unless otherwise arranged.
- For evening wildlife watching, bring clothing layers for cool evening weather and thunderstorms.
- Insect repellent may be necessary in the summer when mosquito become abundant.
- Bring your own water bottle.
