WHEN TO GO

backpacking in yellowstone

Yellowstone National Park is beautiful year-round, but it is best to visit during the warmer months if you’re looking for a trip that includes backpacking or river rafting. The best time for a trip may vary depending on your specific backpacking destination, but typically, you’ll want to come between June and September. Before June, the rivers may still be running high, and there can be lingering snow, making overnight trips cold and uncomfortable. After September, it is also likely that you will encounter colder temperatures and more snowfall.
